Mavs (2-1) Outrebound Lopes (1-2), Win 66-64

UTAfireworks20131115_214857Was cool to watch the game online…great broadcast.

GCU had a great crowd of 5207 in their nice, newly remodeled arena. Looked like a great atmosphere.

Not necessarily the prettiest of wins, but any win is a good win. Mavs (2-1) played uptempo but turned the ball over 16 times and had a tough shooting night from outside against a GCU team that played hard for 40 minutes. Both teams combined for 50 fouls and 56 overall free throw attempts, with a lot of those fouls being committed away from the ball/basket by both teams. With the outside shots not falling, the Mavs did a good job attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line, including making 10 of 14 in the second half.

Freshman Kevin Hervey had 15 rebounds, Lonnie McClanahan led the Mavs with 19 points (including 11-13 FT) and Johnny Hill had a nice shooting night (4-9 FG) for 11 points. Anthony Walker had another highlight film dunk off a rebound and scored 7 points on 3-3 shooting and 1-2 FG.

A few key stats:
FG: UTA 38%, GCU 37%
3 pointers: UTA 20% (3-15), GCU 26% (6-23)
Mavs outrebound GCU 47-32 (offensive rebounds: UTA 15, GCU 8)
Points in the paint: UTA 32. GCU 20
