Just a few quick observations from Sunday afternoon’s basketball game between UT-Arlington (3-1) vs. UC Davis (1-4):
- Final score: UTA 68, UC Davis 59
- Another balanced offensive attack with four players in double digits in scoring: Brian Warren 18 points, Radshad Davis 12, DJ Bryant 11, Edrick Dennis 11
- Great effort for 40:00 from the Mavericks today. Good passes, 8 steals and getting lots of deflections and put a lot of pressure on UC Davis shooters
- UT Arlington continues to defended the 3-point line very well (UC Davis only 6-23, 26%)
- 51 fouls between the two teams, resulting in 53 free throw attempts
- UTA’s free throw shooting continues to be excellent at 24-28 today, which is key considering the uptempo, driving style of offense they’re playing this year
- Three Mavs played with 4 fouls (Radshad Davis, David Azore, Edric Dennis)
- With Patrick Mwamba injured, the starting lineup for UTA was: forward Ayoub Nouhi and four guards: Brian Warren, DJ Bryant, Rashad Davis and TiAndre Jackson-Young
- UTA led at halftime by 9 at 39-30, UC-Davis made 2 consecutive threes to get within 2 about halfway through the second half but UTA got a David Azore three and a three free throws from DJ Bryant to extend the lead back to 8
- Despite being outrebounded much of the game (especially in the first half), UTA got some some offensive rebounds late in the game (including 4 on one possession) and won the battle of the boards by 4 (33-29)
- The Mavs shot 46% (6-13) from outside in the first half, 2-13 in the second
- Guard Siler-Schneider lead UC-Davis with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Super-quick off the dribble, effortless shot
Overall, UTA–one of the most inexperienced teams in the country as far as minutes played at the Division I level–seems to be playing pretty well. Except for a lackluster second half vs. TAMU-Corpus Christi, this year’s UTA team seems to be improving with every game. Huge tests against Indiana and Arkansas on the road this week.
