UTA Defeats UT Dallas in Final Non-Conference Home Game of Season

UTA (7-3) 99, UT-Dallas (1-5) 49

Tonight’s game went about as one would expect: this was a nice chance to keep the offense flowing under game conditions without a lot of pressure; get everyone minutes but not too many; play a very winnable game at home before the biggest test of the season, St. Mary’s on Thursday.

St. Mary’s is ranked #12 in the country and a victory there would be another quality win to go along with the signature win at Texas along with Saturday’s demolishing of our rival North Texas.

So tonight, Div. III UT-Dallas (1-5) was the opponent. The Comets played well, made some threes to keep the game within 20 for most of the first half but were just overwhelmed in the second half by a taller, more athletic UTA team that has won six in a row.

The UTA defense created turnovers and the offense had very, very good flow–the passing, the spacing, the shot selection, the tempo. As a result, the Mavs made 13 threes (a season high). Jalen Jones was 7-11FG, 4-7 3pt for 18 points, Kevin Hervey had 12 points in 21 minutes (4-7FG, perfect 4-4 3pt), Erick Neal had one of his best games of this career tonight: 15 points, 13 assists, 0 turnovers and 5 steals.

Up next: at #12 St. Mary’s Thursday
