Wins over Ohio State and Memphis in the same year? A couple of nights apart? Yep. That’s the kind of schedule you might have to play in March on national TV. And if you beat those two schools, you’re probably playing the final weekend of the tournament.
This is reality: this year’s Mavs are good. Real good.
UTA 68, Memphis 64
“I want to thank the good Lord for this victory. Our guys have shown a ton of resilience. For Memphis to go on that big run in the second half and the crowd got involved, we were fouling them every time down, it was amazing for our guys to snap out of it. Just like the game at Ohio State, the guys believed in each other. There is something special brewing with this basketball team.”
–UT Arlington Coach Scott Cross
In what has been a simply unbelievable week in Maverick basketball history, the Mavs use defeat Memphis 68-64. Memphis shoots just 29% FG and 4-21 from outside. Scoring: Hervey 22, Jones 15, Neal 13.
Similar to Ohio State, UTA didn’t shoot the ball particularly well but played good defense, excellent ball movement, relentless rebounding, lots of hustle for 40:00.

This is one of those weeks where an early resume has been built for tournament time. Even if the Mavs don’t win the Sun Belt, but win 16-20 games…doesn’t this get them at least some consideration for an at-large berth? I know we’re only 4 games in, but still…
