Mavs Now 12-7 after Road Trip Sweep

UTAfireworks20131115_214857UTA Mavs have played well the last two weeks. Let’s look at how they’ve done and check out the conference standings.

Last time I posted…two weeks ago, the Mavs had just demolished Arkansas State by 27 points in Arlington to put their record at 9-6 overall, 3-2 in conference play with tough games coming up at Georgia State, at home vs. Texas State and back on the road at then-conference leader UL-Monroe and always tough-at-home UALR.

Final Game Tonight Before Conference Tournament

So here we are, the Mavs playing for a three game winning streak, building some momentum going into the final day of play before the conference tournament. With a big come from behind win over WKU, having to play well to defend a lead against Troy, now a game against a South Alabama on the road…the Mavs are around the .500 mark in conference play, similar to 2007-2008…could this be a repeat of the NCAA tournament year?

At this point in 2007-2008, the Mavs were 18-10, 7-8 going into their final conference game against Texas State, a game which they would lose before defeating Lamar by 6, Sam Houston State by 6 and Nortwestern State by 3 in the Southland Conference tournament in Katy, TX to earn a berth into the NCAA tournament.

UTA won in double overtime thursday night…

Arkansas Little Rock Schedule Released

As we’ve been looking at Sun Belt basketball schedules lately, we’ve seen some teams that will play several guarantee games on the road against schools we often hear about a lot in late March and April. Arkansas Little Rock might be playing the toughest non-conference schedule I’ve seen so far… Continue reading

Sun Belt Hoops Arena Preview: UA-LR

Enough with concert reviews, although I did score tickets to see The Eagles in October. Another band I’ve always been a casual-at-best fan of, but a family member wanted to see them, so I said sure I’d go too.

But back to basketball:

To me, it’s always interesting to learn about other team’s gyms so before the season starts…so we’ll start with UA-LR.

Jack Stephens Center was built about 10 years ago, seats about 5600. One level of seats all the way around, scoreboards on the ends, a nice practice gym as well. Maybe it’s just me…but does the front entry remind anyone else of College Park Center at all?

The Trojans averaged 3,222 fans per game and had a 17-15 overall record, 11-9 SBC (including a 72-65 home win over Tulsa).
